Tate and Aaron Bezdek

Today’s artist is in the plural ~ two brothers who became fired up about the creative possibilities of combining flame and silica to produce evocative glasswork. Along the way, they bring the glasswork of the distant past into the present!

At ages 21 and 25, brothers Tate and Aaron Bezdek are the youngest hot-glass studio owners in the nation.

In their younger days, they spent much of their time outdoors. The silence and clarity they experienced deeply influenced their ambition to be craftsmen. Nature not only allowed their internal artist to play and to imagine but also to breathe ~ and imparted the conviction they could achieve their dreams.

Passionate about the ancient art form of glass blowing, Tate and Aaron dedicated themselves to learn the craft in 2012. With the goal of opening their own studio, they worked as apprentices in Sacramento, California, climbed the ranks at a local studio in Berkeley, and even traveled to Italy to learn from the masters themselves! They took courses across the country to educate themselves on glass blowing. They wrangled as many Art Festivals as they could fit into the years. And they sold their imaginative creations every step of the way.

As the years passed they became clearer about what they wanted to do. They researched and educated themselves on the skills and the equipment they needed. They learned how to build, improvise or make do for the things they couldn’t afford to buy. They didn’t let lack of resources keep them from the goal. And moving forward step at a time, they’ve made it happen!

Six exciting, challenging years later, the studio has opened and the furnace is HOTT!

As a duo, the Bezdek’s have a simple yet captivating retro-modern style. They aspire to be sharp craftsmen, creating functional works of art. They enjoy collaborating on making objects of beauty, bringing their imaginations to life, and sharing their vision with others.

“Every day in the shop is inspiring, knowing that each gather of molten glass at the end of our pipe can become just about anything. We hope that you will fall in love with hand-blown glass the way that we have.”
