6 KKFI shows feature our art fair

KKFI, 90.1 FM Community Radio, often covers PeaceWorks KC efforts to oppose the making of parts for nuclear weapons in KC MO. In preparation for the 9/23-24 PeaceWorks KC Local Art Fair, KKFI is featuring our fair/fundraiser big-time.

On “Every Woman” Aug. 26, host Fiona Nowling interviewed three artists—Melanie Bolden, an eclectic artist new to KC; Rebecca Koop of Back Door Pottery; and Iryna Stroganova, from Ukraine, who works with acrylics, including painted eggshells. Catch the podcast at https://kkfi.org/program-episodes/every-woman-august-26-2023-peaceworks-art-fair-and-artists/ — you’ll hear Rebecca Koop say, “I do art because I love it. I can’t get away from it!”

“Ebony’s Bones” on 9/6, with Ebony Johnson as moderator, included PeaceWorks Board Member Kimmy Igla; poet and artist Erika Sakata; and Melanie Bolden. The podcast is at https://kkfi.org/?s=Ebony%27s+Bones and the show will air again at noon Friday, 9/8.

On “ArtSpeak Radio,” at noon Wednesday, 9/13, Maria Vasquez Boyd will converse with oil painter Ricardo Nunez, sometimes the lead seller at our annual fair, and PeaceWorks Vice Chair Ann Suellentrop, an artist herself.

On “Urban Connections,” at 4pm Saturday, 9/16, Donna Wolfe will welcome to her show Melanie Bolden and writer/painter Rochelle Wisoff-Fields, along with PeaceWorks Vice Chair Mary Hladky.

“Arts Magazine,” with Michael Hogge, will feature borosilicate glass artist Jeff Sidney and potter Tarris (Terry) Rosell. Cris Mann, chair of PeaceWorks, will update listeners on our projects and plans. Catch the show Monday, 9/18, during the noon-to-12:30pm discussion.

Fiona Nowling, hosting “The Tenth Voice,” will tape our speakers in advance and broadcast the program the first day of our fair, Saturday, 9/23, at 1pm. Kimmy Igla will represent PeaceWorks on the show, and the artists will be Julia Pope, of Life and Death Designs (using insect remains found along KC trails), and Theo Wren, creator of jewelry made with seed beads and Czech glass beads.

Most KKFI moderators post their podcasts within a few hours or days after each program. Note: For eight years, PeaceWorks has contributed each month to KKFI.
