Artists and volunteers, please apply or sign up for the 2023 PeaceWorks KC Local Art Fair. This year’s gathering is our group’s 32nd fair, from humble beginnings in Corva Murphy’s front yard to the expansive Theis Park.
When: Sat., 9/23, 10am-6pm, and Sun., 9/25, 10am-5pm
Where: Theis Park at Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd. and Oak Street in KC MO
The artists sell their treasures, ranging from pottery to paintings, from photos to clothes. The artists keep most of the income, and PeaceWorks keeps some to support peace-and-justice efforts. “Art and peace. What a combo!” says Ann Suellentrop, an artist and vice chair of the PeaceWorks Board.
Artists around town are telling us they appreciate our location under the trees and our low application fee.
“Art is for everyone,” says PeaceWorks Chair Cris Mann, “and there’s something for everyone.” She adds, “Come see the creativity of our city!” Reflecting on the mix of artists’ tents and social justice tables, Cris says, “Our fair has soul, and it has heart!”
The artists’ application highlights inclusivity, encouraging submissions from communities of color, persons of all genders, LGBTQIA+, and persons with disabilities.
Artists, the application is at https://bit.ly/PWKCArtFair2023.The deadline to apply is Aug. 31; the application fee is $35. Apply online or by mailing the application.
Volunteers, access click here to signup for a time slot. We need cashiers, drivers, fair monitors, and heavy-lifting help for set-up and tear-down.
Final note: You may recall the name UNplaza Art Fair. In 2020, the PeaceWorks Board changed the name to accent both our organization and our local artists, so the fair is now the PeaceWorks KC Local Art Fair.
