This full-day workshop on Nov. 1, led by Nashid of Jerusalem Farm, will explore the historical 1955-56 nonviolent boycott of segregated buses in Montgomery, AL. At this event, “Remembering the Montgomery Bus Boycott,” Nashid says, “We will share the story of this campaign focusing on the local oral tradition. We will also explore how Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., guided this effort based on ‘Gandhian nonviolence’ (Satyagraha) and Christian teachings.” Utilizing group discussion, exercises, and historical sharing, this interactive workshop will present lessons for organizing nonviolent campaigns as well as how to deal with the challenges of living out Satyagraha (nonviolence) in a society that holds to contrary values.
This workshop is FREE. The full-day session (10am to 4pm) includes a free vegetarian lunch. The workshop will be held at Jerusalem Farm, 520 Garfield Avenue, KCMO 64124.
