Long-time peace activist Marion Küpker of Hamburg, Germany, is the international coordinator against nuclear weapons for the German Peace Society of the United War Resisters. She will speak from a European/German perspective about the 180 US B61 nuclear weapons (gravity bombs) deployed in Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey, and Belgium.

With a commitment to a world free of nuclear weapons, Küpker has worked for more than 20 years for withdrawal of the weapons from Germany. She is also working against the US plan to spend $12 billion to modernize these weapons, which are illegal under German and international law. Part of the work to modernize the weapons is being done at the National Security Campus, the Honeywell plant in south Kansas City, at Botts Road and Mo. Hwy. 150.
Küpker is applying pressure on Germany to sign and ratify the new UN Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
“Nuclear weapons are the most destructive, inhumane, and indiscriminate weapons ever created,” says Mary Hladky, vice chair of the PeaceWorks Board of Directors. “It is important that people here at home, and throughout the world, work to eliminate nuclear weapons from our world.”
