A Newsweek article Feb. 11 announced, “A group is planning a nationwide economic blackout as a response to the rollback of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives sparked by the federal government.”
The article, titled “Nationwide Economic Blackout on February 28: What to Know about Boycott,” explains, “When President Donald Trump re-entered office last month, one of his first calls to action was to end several of the DEI initiatives in the federal government. He mandated in an executive order that funds could be frozen for companies that do not comply. He also outlawed any messaging that promotes inclusion-based language.”
Sweeping, right?
Responding to DEI rollbacks, the anti-corporate group called the People’s Union USA has launched a 24-hour boycott of Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy, and asks participants not to spend money that day either online or in stores. The People’s Union USA describes itself as a “grassroots movement dedicated to economic resistance, government accountability, and corporate reform.” The group advises not spending on fast food or gas on Feb. 28. If needed, the People’s Union USA suggests buying necessities from small, local businesses.
