Charles Carney’s Peace Walk, Aug. 26

By Charles Carney

Having been born in the state of Kansas, I’ve always loved sunflowers—our state flower. Some time ago, I also learned that sunflowers are hyperaccumulators, which means they are able to remove high concentrations of toxic materials including zinc, copper, lead and radioactive materials. This fact serves as a great lesson about how Earth will heal itself if we give it time.

I passed a sunflower field in Burdick, KS, today, and took the picture here, complete with Donna Constantineau, my wife, accompanying me in the early days of this Peace Walk.
