Afghanistan, the forgotten war
The Trump Administration has decided to continue to support the war in Afghanistan, only with more troops and no stated end game. As this war completed its 16th year, on Oct. 7, more troops were on their way to Afghanistan. The suffering of our troops, their families, and the Afghan people will continue.
Activists aim to oust US nuclear weapons from Germany
Marion Küpker, of Hamburg, Germany, spoke to PeaceWorks members recently about her work to oust US nuclear weapons from her country. In 2016, Küpker helped launch an annual 20-week-long series of protests at Büchel Air Base, demanding withdrawal of the 20 B61 bombs there. Several Americans attended this year’s events, and Küpker invited us to participate next year.
Rally and petition seek freedom for whistleblower Chelsea Manning
Roughly 50 PeaceWorks members and friends rallied outside Fort Leavenworth in Kansas Nov. 20 in support of Chelsea (formerly Bradley) Manning’s petition to President Obama to reduce her sentence to time served—6 years. Manning is incarcerated at Fort Leavenworth.
