Ask Congress to address 2 measures

As Congress begins its annual sessions, it often changes bill and resolution numbers for items not passed in the prior year. This may happen for two measures PeaceWorks KC supports.

H.Res. 77 is a “sense of the House” resolution, not a bill that may become a law. H.Res.77 is Embracing the Goals and Provisions of the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (using tenets of Back from the Brink—preventnuclearwar.org). The five tenets include stopping the president’s sole authority to launch a nuclear attack.

H.R. 2775, a House rule that may become a bill, is Nuclear Weapons Abolition and Climate Conversion Act, supporting provisions of Warheads to Windmills (warheadstowindmills.org). H.R. 2775 directs the US to sign the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and convert nuclear weapon industry resources and personnel “to purposes … addressing the climate crisis” and other purposes.

Please ask Reps. Emanuel Cleaver, 816-842-4545, and Sharice Davids, 913-621-0832, to speak up for these measures.
