Campaign Nonviolence Conference Aug. 6-8 requires preregistration

The Campaign Nonviolence Conference Aug. 6-8—marking the 75th anniversary of the US bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki—is totally online. Conference organizers ask people to register in advance.

The Aug. 6 Hiroshima Day Commemoration (participation is free) will be a moving remembrance and call for action to end nuclear weapons. Among speakers are Ira Helfand, M.D., former president of Physicians for Social Responsibility and a leader of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), winner of the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize.

The 3-hour Aug. 7 nonviolence training costs $20.

And the Aug. 8 event, 7 hours long, costing $50, includes rock stars for peace, such as:

Kazu Haga, founder of the East Point Peace Academy and author of Healing Resistance: A Radically Different Response to Harm,

 

Dr. Erica Chenoweth, a Harvard University faculty member, one of the world’s leading social scientists and scholars on nonviolence, and co-author of Why Civil Resistance Works, and

 

Rev. John Dear, a peace activist and author of 35 books, including The Nonviolent Life, The Beatitudes of Peace, and They Will Inherit the Earth.
